Yes, ur right newbiesforever. LQ shud gives us option to change our nick, because Jeremy might be busy with something else, and he might not find time to change the nick for everyone. Imagine, 5000 guys requesting to change their nicks.

I think a large number of members continuously and spuriously changing their usernames would have a negative impact on the continuity of the site. Your username is the main way other members know you. Many times there is a legitimate reason to change a username, but the manual aspect acts as a good filter IMHO.

No, LQ should NOT have this feature---nor should any forum.
When you sign on to a forum and start posting, people will start getting to know you. Hopefully, your actions will give you a good reputation, but---more generally---people start learning about your skills and perspectives, and they can use that to interpret or calibrate your advice and comment.
I can think of no reason to change your screen name that would benefit the community.
There are plenty of threads discussing things like this so I wouldn't suggest repeating the same arguments. For a forum like this, quick name changing would lead to very easy trolling, with horrible consequences. It's only a nickname, who cares? It's not on your birth certificate (Unlike when I legally registered my daughter "Penolpe" a few months back) If you don't want to contact Jeremy, then if it *really* *really* is a matter of life and death, just re-register.
