Can some members be given the rights to modify the poor thread titles?

A thread with a proper title lands up in the
Google searches, and thus preventing other
people from reinventing the wheels.

One way is to report each thread to the Mods
for the title modifications. This involves
the members as well as the mods.

Can some old members be given the rights to
modify the POOR thread titles?

That way there will be a load sharing, and
things will get done quicker.

That would actually be nice, yet, it would almost be as becoming a "mini-moderator," so to speak.

Sorry if I should know, but is this implemented?

Btw, great idea!

Wouldn't it be better to gently suggest how OP can help themselves by fixing their thread title and post structure?

It seems like a good idea in theory, but personally I would always err on the side of caution when it comes to what amounts to hand holding and nannying. Forums have always suffered from poorly named threads (e.g. "HEEEEEEEEELLLPP!!!") and I can't see this ever changing - in fact if such threads are simply to be renamed, you're just feeding this problem.

You have to remember that not everyone is familiar with forum etiquette, most people just don't read the rules and guidelines, so bad thread naming is just inevitable. This is one possible solution, but it will also lead to threads being renamed and having spelling corrected against the OP's will - for many that's just too intrusive and could lead to unnecessary friction.

Thanks for the feedback. We have no plans to implement the ability for members to edit other members titles at this time. You should continue to either report the thread so that a mod can change the title or suggest to the member that they change it themselves (which is probably the ideal solution, since it will educate the member on why thread titles are important moving forward).

What I have observed is that asking the newbies to change the title is totally fruitless. It is extremely rare to see a newbie changing his thread title even after several warnings.

Well, anyway, the final verdict has been already given. ;-)

I guess this idea was taken from the stackexchange sites? It would require a rewrite of the code I imagine to have a FFA system on vBulletin.

EDIT: nevermind, noticed jeremy has already responded
