Am I missing something? What happens when your post count goes up?

I've read here that as your post count goes up you gain features and lose advertisements, or whatever.
I haven't been able to find an explanation of what happens anywhere.

I'm not sure what the increments are, but you go from newbie to member to senior member.

We consistently tweak the numbers in an attempt to provide the best user experience we can. Is there something specific you'd like to know?

This is a quote from the thread that business_kid recently started, about inappropriate advertisements showing up while using this site:
Quote:
2) With the number of posts you have, you shouldn't even be seeing many ads on LQ... which leads me to suspect you may have some kind of malware on the machine you saw this on.

I can't think of where I saw any other posts regarding this that come to mind, or what they said in them ... so I can't search for them. But I'm pretty sure that I read somewhere else that other things also happen as your post count gets higher. I've searched around here, and I can't find an explanation anywhere of what happens as your post count gets higher (other than having fewer advertisements).

Hi, Joe~

Adding a profile picture, adding attachments to posts, and private messaging are the first three that come to mind, but there are others. You can search the Site FAQ page for more info regarding LQ features.

A while back, some of these features were restricted to mods and contributing members, and some were disabled completely, but Jeremy has graciously enabled them for active users with a certain post count. However, as Jeremy has stated, the number of features enabled and the post counts are constantly changing to make LQ better for us.

Cheers

Indeed, I don't see any advertising anymore!

I'm looking through the FAQ again right now.
I looked through a decent amount of it before, but as soon as I saw that there was a section on how the reputation system works I figured it was just a general FAQ and that not all details of the FAQ would necessarily apply to this site ... and I couldn't find any information on the features that are enabled.
I still have advertisements, but I had my private messages enabled pretty recently. I've been assuming that to get rid of the advertisements you have to have a very high post count. I've been thinking maybe Senior Member (1000 posts).

I've been trying to only make legitimate posts, too ... a couple of times I've posted something and regretted posting it, but it hasn't happened for a while now.

We don't have a reputation system. We do advise anyone posting here that the number of posts != amount of knowledge. While someone may be a sendmail guru, their Bacula knowledge could be lacking. That's why the rules also state that you should be fully aware of what any command run on your system does as there is the potential for your system to get hosed. I'm paraphrasing, by the way

Again with the Thanks, it's not a reputation system, simply a way to ahow that someone has provided useful information, without giving an indicator of what that information is, of course.

For the ads, I honestly can't remember what the limit is to disable them. I haven't seen them for a long long time!

I believe the post count for ads was recently (in the past few months) changed to 500. (No promises there, but it was well before I became Senior Member.)

FWIW- The FAQ page does list (I'm assuming VB) features that are not enabled at all on LQ. To my knowledge, there's no actual page to find info on what is enable or when. (Too much work continuously updating, I presume?)

Cheers
