What's the coolest thing you've done in Linux? - Page 5

I don't even know what the terminology is.
But, a friend has a dedicated Red Hat server. And I have a shell (I'm on it now...browsing via 'links' ^_^.
I figured you could change things in the ./configure scripts for programs, but never the extent I have.
I'm obviously unable to write to /etc /lib etc.

.
But, I have a psuedo Linux system inside my home directory.
~/local/ and I have all of them, doc, usr, etc, lib, another home (won't be used, I know :P), etc.

I never knew that that's how installations have to be accomplished for user specific things.

Completely and totally awesome. Using master resources, but install and configured for yours truely.

I've learned so much being console/terminal only, it's so fun.

the more u use the console the more similiar other distros and nix boxes will appear....

the coolest thing is installing linux :P and of course deleting windows

Unfortunately there is no driver for my old printer for linux. So I come with the decision to setup "windows print server". Hope it won't comes with blue screen;P. I got the oldest PC 486 DX, 8MB ram, 540 MB HDD =]. The coolest hardware in it is the Lan card (3Com of course;P) Hope ill set it up fast. Anybody made something like this? If so.. post some tips ;P

the printer is Olivetti Art Jet 10. I found drivers only for windows 98. Any ideas?

as a coaster? why not stick it in a toaster and "really" burn a cd ...
another thing, use a WYSE terminal with my mac powerbook

speaking of which can you get aalib to run on a serial tty, or would the baud rate be to slow for that?

That's new compared to my Epson LQ-850. If it's a Postscript printer it may not need a driver, or you may find a generic driver in your distro's setup.

The coolest was removing that stupid 8mb partition that Hex-P makes. Other than that....using my hacked Hex-P cds to play fizbee with my wall...They shatter nicley...
