If you have a USB flash drive or external hard drive to back your files on to, that would be handy. You can use a Live CD to mount your hard drive and then copy the files across. At the same time (or before) you could try and remove the file /etc/X11/xorg.conf then reboot into your installed OS. Any display settings in that file will be gone so you may be lucky there.
