I'm literally scanning the disk for errors on my P2 450 right now. My Athlon already has a slave and needs the master and slave to boot with grub, so it's pretty much full unless I want to screw with it. So I'm using my '450. It's a cool 486, it's just a motherboard on a table, a monitor I ripped apart and rebuilt with an Erector set, and I made a mount for my drives with Erector sets too. It's sooo groovy-like, but I need to get it working before I say that. :) |
Yes WineX does cost $$$, you need to get a subscription from Transgaming and then you may download it.
You can get the CVS version for free but that has no support for installshield installers and no copy protection code. The CVS works for games like starcraft and counter strike perfectly. If you try and get the CVS and it won't compile, they usually fix it in a few days. |

What's the coolest thing you've done in Linux?
~ ~ ~ Getting the b*****d working as easily as my wind0w$ install! regards John |
MickeyMouse - indeed winex is not free.
|
Practically anything involving the Zaurus.. nfs or samba shares to get GB of storagen in my hand, web browsing, website hosting, ssh, etc, etc.. Just its 'size to capability' is what makes it so darn cool :)

[ cron + mpeg123 ] to wake me up.
nice alarm clock - hehe |
I think xmms has a convenient alarm plugin to do that too.

using only 5 mouse clicks and no keyboard to access my mp3s on a windows partition. In mankdrake right click on desktop, find add, select disk, find the device tab and select the partition, hit ok

The best thing I've done is download 3GB of redhat isos (all 8.0 and 7.3 isos) in about 1 1/2 hours with cable internet! "holy holy holy holy hollyyy craaaap!" - Strong Bad on the spin 'n say, www.homestarrunner.com
Then I got a few win progs running under wine. That's VERY cool. But I have no luck with wine, it ALWAYS crashes. And I got XMMS running with MP3 support, that rocks ... AND reading the mp3s of my NTFS drive! |
Rid 4 of the 5 computers on my home network COMPLETELY of WInblow$, the last one will be cleared out as well as soon as I port a few essential programs I have written.
Steve :D :D |
uhh the coolest thing, how about taking a forum system for my school from a windows 2000 server running IIS 5, and turning it into a mean, lean Redhat server (I had not choice on the distro), running apache. I also added remote administration capapbilities using ssh tunnelling and X11 forewarding (teh command line scares the admins who don't use linux regularely)

the coolest things I have done on Linux are:
getting Debian installed (took me about 40 attempts but I did it!) Getting VMware installed and running i'm pround of them, since I'm a linux uer of about 2 months now, and I love every minute of it! next projects are getting my Kernel updated, getting Mplayer to install, and getting UT and counter strike to install. |
