hmmm the coolest thing i've done in linux, shivers.....

running win2kpro and mandrake 9.1 in tandem thanks to VMware Workstation 4
just to see if i could do it...

got gift up and running with clients Gnutella, apollon, giFToxic, giFTcurs, OpenFT, and FastTrack now downloading is a breeze ;p

got LimeWireLinux up and running also...

compiled my own network driver for nforce2 chipset etc...

only 3 weeks with linux, and a total newbie but im loving it, the challenge is what drives me

setting up an OLD joystick to play a gameboy emulator
adding a serail port to my computer to attach a WYSE terminal
being 100% microsoft free in my room
using a 20x4 serial lcd as a clock
using a shell script and an mp3 player as an alarm clock

Making simple shell scripts, I made a basic frontend for DooM and I was satisfied. I realize that's not a great accomplishment in the world of computing, but I'm happy I made something simple and useful

Getting Jedi Outcast run with wine. And nearly twice as fast (and without any bug yet) as on Windows...

Performed critical system upgrades without rebooting.

Said goodbye to BSOD. Nearly missing it.

Setting up a opensource (read free) Linux replacement for MS Exchange! OpenGroupware looks pretty promising. http://www.opengroupware.org

This is going to sound really lame. Seriously. Ah well. I've finally learned how to do multitasking in the console. It;s realy neat to me, especailly since I came from a DOS/Windows background and I've never been able to multitask in a pure console.

My high point till now:

and my desktop is looking so nice and friendly saying to me everytime i start SuSE: im no going to crash......

after trying wine on kazza, mldonkey, etc...

im free from M$

now im trying to run AutoCad with wine...

I'm just kidding (though it's one of my best ideas so far)

The automatic curse generator is something I'm proud of. And putting a stardate calendar on my WindowMaker dosktop is pretty neat either.

But the coolest of all was of course, telling my friends!
"I have a Linux machine with kernel 2.6 on!"
"I can run apache nativly!"
"I can play all sorts of nice games!"
"My desktop is prettier than yours!"
etc.

I erased Windows from my machine at work to demonstrate that for the office needs Linux is as good or better. I've been useing Mandrake Linux without any trouble for last six months. I use Novel client to connect to the LAN and Lotus Notes to access databases and as a mail client. And I don't know much about computers. After all, I'm just a lawyer.

heh, I just finally did that today...I was totally lost.

coolest thing:
- learning vi.
Use vi to program and those commands will stay in your head!

- currently learning awk/gawk

saddest part:
- still need windows for a few games (battlefield1942) and applications (sony minidisc's applications win only :/ )

and the coolest of them all: still learning miscellaneous stuffs on linux everyday!

I just made a shell script that takes the pid of devfsd, then restarts it so my ipod is detected, then mounts the ipod, launches gtkpod, waits till gtkpod is finished and then unmounts and ejects the ipod
Now I can just have it in the dock on my desk, and click on the script to start writing

upgrading kde to 3.2 package by package as i have a modem , and being able to understand what the errors mean

and upgrading the kernel and removing some of the services that start at boot time that i dont need .
