True Firefox appreciation

I've been using FF on my home Linux pc for ages. But, whilst it was a nice enough browser, I never quite 'got' the "I love Firefox!" attitude.

Today, I understand!

You see, at WORK, I have to use XP. And thus IE is the default browser. But our IT dept is so afraid that a user might do something, ANYTHING, wrong, that they did something that really didn't make me happy: They took away our ability to change ANY of the IE settings.

So the default web page was always the company's own intranet - a site I never use. All my links to information sources vanished regularly, because I couldn't switch off the "Hide unused bookmarks" setting. Pop-up windows appeared regularly because I couldn't install any blocking software. The same adverts cluttered my screen, day after day.

But today, I managed to get Firefox on my PC. And that means I have a browser with MY settings. Oh, the luxury!

I have mouse gestures. I am free from popups. I have no blasted "Download lots of smiley faces" banners. I have bookmarks that don't hide from me. I can use live bookmarks to see if /. has any new articles instead of using up my subscription.

I have a working web browser at last!

I'm used to my home PC having more functionality than my work PC, so Firefox didn't seem that special at home. But on my work PC, it seems like a quantum leap ahead.

I have reached... Nerdvana :)
