Thumbs Up To Linux!

I'm not too sure if this belongs in this forum or Success Stories. If this is the wrong forum, I do apologize. I would just like to say, as of 5 minutes ago (just got finished setting up Ogle) my Linux machine now will do everything my old m$ machine it replaced will do, as well as more. I've heard so many horror stories of how tough Linux is to set up and use and so on and so forth. I would like to say, it only took me a week. Only a week because I wasn't in a hurry. Considering I was still looking for m$ apps to do the job after 6 years, I think a week is very good. Very few times did I consider going back to m$. I couldn't have done it without the help of LQ. Thank you all, so very much for this, and for the future help you all will continue to give to me, as well as all the users.

Probably does belong in success stories. But oh well, it'll get moved soon enough.

I had a similar experience with my mother, step-mother, and sister recently. Each of them found that a well setup box worked far better and could do more for them than Windows.

My step-mother swears that she will never go back and is upset we didn't move her sooner. My mother is less enthusiastic but is thrilled and hasn't said anything about wanting to go back (she doesn't like computers... just sees them as a tool and like *nix because it just works). My sister has had one complaint about small fonts in gaim... but other than that she is very content.

I really don't see the "not userfriendly" argument. These are not tech-people. Of course, they could have never set the computers up on their own either.

Congrats to you. I would drink a toast... but I need to drive in about 20 minutes.
