Something interesting happened a few days ago that I thought at least a few of us would enjoy learning. All the desktop computers in our house (3) are dual or triple boot. My wife prefers to use Windows XP (it runs more of the applications she likes) and she developed a document with mail merge in Word to send to a bunch of people we knew. Unfortunately, when she went to print it, the output was garbage. (Lines printed on top of other lines, etc.) After trying to make things work for a while, she came to me with a floppy disk and asked if I could print her file. I was running openSUSE 10.2 at the time. I put the floppy in the drive, opened the .doc file with OpenOffice, and proceeded to print everything for her. I even printed some envelopes for her, although that did require my adding to the original document.
I then saved the file in .odt format on the floppy and returned it to her. She was impressed, and I am glad that Linux now has something to offer her besides Frozen Bubble.
