modem

SUCCESS!
My first post from Linux. Had to buy a pcmcia modem to get it done
but I am a happy camper! Winxp will soon be history. Now to dl opera.

but how did u got it work?

mjolnir 11-15-2003 10:26 AM

I wish I could say I wrote a great script or hacked out a driver but MDK9.1
saw the card right away. It is a 3COM, # 3CXM756-US with an X-jack conn
ector. I just plugged it in, used Drakeconnect to set up an account, kppp, and
I was on the net.

tricky_linux 11-15-2003 01:08 PM

and does mandrake support 3cxm356 or 3c556?

DonLuis 11-15-2003 06:43 PM

Go to www.linux-mandrake.com and check their hardware compatiblity listing, this should answer you 3com 356 ~ 556 quesion.

XP is history! I am now dual booting RedHat9 and MDK9.1 on my toshiba sat laptop.
Both are using the pcmcia modem fine, although the connection speed is slightly
slower than xp with the winmodem. But I guess that's to be expected.

tricky_linux 11-20-2003 06:07 PM

what kind pcmcia modem are using?
Could you post your "lspci"

mjolnir 11-21-2003 03:15 PM

3COM, # 3CXM756-US with an X-jack connector

I did a re-install when I deleted xp and I am having trouble getting the connection set back up.
I am using RedHat 9 to post this and I am unable to get lspci to run at the moment. I have to go
to work but I WILL get back to you when I have time to work it out.
