Linux Solution to WinXP Password Problems

My dad just got a new laptop. But they didn't set him up with his own username/password and didn't tell him admin's username/password (I know admin's username is usually "Administrator" but in this case they had renamed it to something else). If anyone has a similar problem (or they just forgot their Windows password) here's how I fixed it.

I booted up with Knoppix, and I installed a program called "chntpw". I pointed this program to a file on the hard drive called "SAM" (which contains Windows password/username info, I guess) and it gave me a list of usernames and their rights (for example, administrative rights). I picked the admin's username and it allowed me to overwrite admin's password.

Then I restarted into Windows and went from there.

Awesome, but threads like these belong in Success Stories since your not asking Linux technical questions, so it's been moved.

Note that the above link - while the page's location says ntpasswd - is NOT a link to a different tool. It's got the "chntpw" tool.
