kernel compile

After many spectacular failures and endless googling,I funally got kernel 2.6.11 to compile and load correctly. All told it took about 6 hours, just to get rid of oss.
1) I would try to edit grub by hand-big mistake-found out about update-grub.
2) Kpkg wouldn't make an initrd-don't know if it's supposed to-did that
3) Lastly the one thing all the How-to's seem to leave out.Make sure you have module-assistant installed,I didn't,but now I do and I'm happy to have finally got the damn thing compiled and running.
It's not really all that hard once you have the proper tools. Now if I could just figure out what all the local mail from samhain means.
