KDE File assoc. sorted (Suse9)
Ahhh!
Well, some background: My girlfriend was away so I took the opportunity to upgrade her SuSE8.2 to SuSE9.0. Everything was just right but for one thing, the KDE file associations for media files were not 'sticking' I would right click the files and set the association, or use the KDE control center and set them there. No luck, nothing would hold. this: (on the suse mailing list) "Filetypes, MIME types, extensions are always cached in ram, and uses a KDE database: sycoca, its the one keeping track of these entries. Appearantly it does not refresh/rebuild the entire database by default -- could be the reason you saw duplicate entries. You should do that manually when you make "too many"? changes: As a regular user.. (open a terminal) # kbuildsycoca --noincremental" So, I set my associations for Gxine (mpeg, avi, wmv etc) by editing the properties of the chosen program (added all the video stuff en mass) and ran the above command. Bingo! Worth a try if you have probs like I did. |
I upgraded to KDE 3.4 and well, its not saving my file associations. Before that I had the KDE which comes default with Fedora Core 2.
When I open the file associations option, in konqueror or kcontrol, it successfully applies the changes, but they are not reflected. When I again open the file associations option, the changes I did apparently seem to be lost completely. I also tried your command thing... Code:
[anurag@localhost anurag]$ kbuildsycoca --noincremental PS: I don't have a girlfriend, does it matter to KDE? ;) Regards, Unpredictable |
