I managed to get Dataone running!

Hello!

I'm a new member here.
I got introduced to GNU/Linux last year when our college (MIT,Chromepet,Chennai) conducted a Linux awareness programme along with ILUGC (Indian Linux User's Group Chennai ) and now I'm completely hooked to Linux.
I just successfully managed to get BSNL broadband running on FC3. At first I had some problems.I followed the instructions given in link I found at the ILUGC website:
< I tried to include the link here but since I'm a newbie, I'm not permitted. >
but it was not working.
Finally,in desperation, I reinstalled the FC3 and during the installation, when anaconda asks "select network settings," instead of using the default DHCP method, I manually entered the DNS server addresses(61.1.96.69 and 61.1.96.71), the IP, the subnet masks and the default gateway.
After that, everything worked like a charm. I didn't even have to use the adsl-setup etc.etc. described in the above link.
Why do I write this here? Well, I figured practically everyone starts their posts here with some problem they had in Linux. So I thought it would be a good omen to start off with how I managed to solve one.
Also, it might help some newbie like me who might also be having trouble.

After I did this, a Linux guru from ILUGC I know said that reinstallation is usually unnecessary in the Linux world, so maybe this is not the best solution, after all. But still,it solved my problem.

Please reply and tell me if I did the right thing or if I wasted a lot of time in an unnecessary procedure.
Thanking You,
I am,
a grateful newbie,
Savio
P.S: I suppose this is a long post, but I can't help it. I`m just so excited that I could finally get the broadband working!

:newbie:

This looks like a Success Story to me - so I have moved it to Success Stories.
