Home network
Hi, im 17 and i decided that i would make a home server to store mail, documents etc.
I looked around at windows server, but it was difficult to come across legally so i thought that i would try out linux, free, and supposidly very stable. Problem was that i didnt know anything about, linux, unix or anything - just knew some general dos commands but unphased by that, i downloaded redhat 9 and created a dual boot. After learning some of the basics, doing a lot of reading, and spending many happy hours on such useful websites like this and in irc rooms i was starting to understand it. I then downloaded fedora core 1 and decided that i was going to go for it. I was going to make my server. Been playing with it for about a year now inbetween doing my exams and things and i now have it so that all of the windows computers pick up the users documents and mail off of my now fedora core 2 soon to become mandrake 10 linux server. I have also had a webserver set up and running on my box but just a standard home internet connection aint really enough - but it was another thing i know how to do. And thats my sucess story, just amazed that there is alot of people out there who are willing to help clueless people like me but with a bit of peserverance and a lot of late nights and the odd bit of swearing at the monitor :tisk: i feel that i have got there, and this is sort of a big thanks to all of the people who have helped me out along the way. Thanks |

Great to hear, nice to see a young fellow doing and learning stuff. Don't see to many in my part of the woods.
