After a small eon...
had much un-success trying to install mandrake 7 as a dual boot on my "main" machine, got fed up...then decided that I REALLY wanted to try this silly thing. Was going to install forWin, but had been wanting computer#2 for a while, decided to ask TheBob to put together another for me, at about a fifth the cost, older parts [hoping that there might be existing Linux drivers for them]...
I am so very happy to report that it is running ok on it's own machine!
Now to figure out how the hell to
1] use kfm to find all that neat stuff on CD #3, including Star Office and Xbill...did I install them, and does "install" even mean the same thing as I'm used to?...
2] hook up my not-networked printer, maybe even the scanner, oooooo neato
3] everything else!!
I have a Linux library going...hard to do everything, but hope to read through the BIG BOOK of Linux Programming White Papers I bought for 5 bucks from a bin a year ago - it's actually great for me, goes from This Is a Bus, to programming...
Yey!!!
Now to pass Algebra/Geometry, then Calculus...again...
PS
no modem, I decided I would [eventually] feed that machine an external modem, in the mean time, I can, perhaps, feed it off of floppies/CD-RWs from Win machine online connection...
I am tired but happy.
