Finally got my parents to switch

So my mom calls me telling me she got some JS tracker trojan and i cant get rid of it. so shes begging me for help cause shes constatly getting pop ups.
I told her that i will take her laptop home.
DELL XPS M140 and stick linux on it.
i answer a few questions about what to use. I load it and absolutely EVERYTHING worked without any issues at all. I was amazed at how well they did wireless on 7.10.

It took em a few mins to realize that it was firefox for internet and evolution for mail. and pidegeon for IMs.
otherwise its just working.

I just wanted to share since i didnt see the DELL XPS M140 on HCL.

Thanks for listening to me brag
Jeff

Awesome!

Did you add the M140 to the HCL? Or create a write up for Tuxmobil or Linux-on-laptop?

LOL, yeah, I remember when I first talked to my Dad about putting Linux on the machine. He liked the idea, but soon said, "what's the point if we've already got a good OS?" () Well, all it took was for him to find out that a new USB stick wasn't compatible with Windows 98SE (yes, 98). He said to me, "so maybe we could try Linux now?"

Just for you or anyone else that for a multitude of reasons leaves relatives/in-laws on Windows 98SE, I found this cool site where they keep unofficial security updates. I believe it also has a generic USB mass storage driver that gets installed. The best part of the updates program is that you can leave it unattended -- it'll keep rebooting itself until all the updates are installed.
