Adios, Windows.
Well, I just did it. I got rid of Windows on my PC. It is gone.
Yay. Now I've got Linux on the first partition of my first hard drive, where it belongs. :) -dave |
How long had you dual-boot before you get rid of it?
|
Well, quite some time. I initially started playing with Linux over a year ago, but trying to run RH with KDE on a 200MMX machine was pretty slow, and when school started again I didn't have as much time to play. When school got out though and I got my new computer (around the end of May) I started playing with Linux in earnest. Since then it has been my primary OS, but it wasn't until today that I gave Windows the boot completely.
I've been using Linux almost exclusively, only occasionally booting into Windows, since probably mid June. I just needed to muster up the courage to finally show it the way out. :) -dave |
Congrats! It is a nice feeling, once you've gained some comfort with Linux, to toss aside that old anchor. It took me a while too, but I think it's better to be cautious than to rush into something and wish you'd been more careful.
Just think of all the things you've gained in the process. You virtually don't have to spend money on any software you just want to try (programming software and web publishing come to mind), unless you want to. You'll no longer face those mysterious "error 100x000AE:243FFF975139874" useless errors. Reinstalling a peice of software, or the OS itself is history. Nope, now all you have to do is figure out what to do first, now that you have a full featured, reliable system in your hands! :) |
Moved: Seems like a success story to me.

Grats :)

Im getting MS free its just programs that slow me down. But as an improvment atleast one computer is running it.
|
Did you take a hot shower to make sure you got all the windoze germs off you? :D
Congrats! Cool |
Congratulations!
I finally converted in full to Linux at home, too. I kept installing and uninstalling Linux, dual-booting with Windows, using Virtual PC to run Linux in Windows, etc. Finally with the news about that stinking worm virus, I said enough with this Windows crap. Closed the Gates and embraced the Penguin at home! |
I got rid of MS and feel real clean :) Adobe and MS can legally search your hard drive without you being even aware and without a search warrant. They won't find their crap on my computer :D
