Yet another introduction
 

I am not quite sure how long I have used Linux - on and off for years, since some time in the mid-90s. Currently, involved with the administration of several boxes at work (redhat 9, 8, and 7.2, mandrake 6, and now smoothwall 2 (beta)). Spending lots of time lately trying to get smoothwall and RH9 configured to take over firewall, mail, web, and ftp services from an older machine.

In addition to the distributions mentioned above, I have a fair amount of Solaris and SunOS history, having done some admin of them in the mid-90s, development on them throughout the 90s (student and work), and recent history doing configuration and testing on some of the larger machines (Serengeti and Starcat architected machines running Solaris 8) plus of course some workstations - Blade 2000s and Ultra/10s.

Oh, add in some HP-UX user-side experience at my last job, but that is getting rusty as it has been about 3 years since I had to do anything with it.

Too much Microsoft experience, but it probably can not be totally avoided. Have not progressed beyond Y2K yet, although I am sure that the day is not far off.

Could you guess? I work for a computer consulting group, doing a little bit of everything. On paper I am a programmer, in practice we do whatever we need to do, be it program, admin, test, config, etc.

Some things I know really well, some areas I am totally lost on. Hopefully some participation here will improve the "totally lost" topics.

urpmi gcc
Install Midnight Commander by commanding:
