Recently, about two weeks ago, I stopped using windows altogether. Since then, I've gotten very cozy with my preferred distro, Gentoo Linux. I made this choice with the council of several friends and the internet.
In general, I've loved computers since an early age. I forced myself to learn to type with a blindfold at 10 while all the other kids were out playing soccer or frisbee. I guess I was never interested in those kinds of things. Linux might have been a natural choice for me, then. Or it might have been a good coincidence brought on by the disgrace of my former operating system. Yes, I ran Windows 98 on this very computer several months ago. After about a year of browsing the internet, IRCing, reading, etc., it became so bogged down with spyware, virii, adware, etc. that I could no longer start it outside of safe mode. So, thinking quickly, I moved all of my files from one partition of my 120GB HD to the other and devoted the other 60GB section to Gentoo Linux. I'm VERY happy with the way it works. My former 1-2 day uptime has been crushed by the sheer stability of Linux. I'm very impressed with the firewall, and the genius simplicity of the entire operating system.
I'm never going back.
