Hello,
I'm not new to computers (use to program them in college with punch cards, yes that was quite a few years ago), but am fairly new to Linux (less than a year of use). I have an older Dell laptop that runs Ubuntu 7.04 and the home desktop is dual boot Windoze 2000 Pro (default) and Unbuntu 7.10. Hopefully, I'll have the home system running just Ubuntu in the next year.

Not to burst your bubble, but programming with punch cards (Fortran??) will not be of much help in learning modern operating systems. I am from a similar epoch (see my sig.) In those days, I don't think I even realized what an operating system was or did. All I really understood is that you had to have the statement number in the first column, and then the code in(column 7?). Also, we learned that shuffling the deck was not a good thing to do.....;)
