Cool ubuntu beginner

Hi,

New to Linux, new to using a terminal, new to the whole shebang.

It's making me tear my hair out at the moment because of the steep learning curve, but I'm making some progress.

I'm still trying to figure out how to do the most basic commands in the terminal!!!

That, and a lot of the how-tos out there are geared to the linux geeks who've been doing this stuff for years...I wish there was more stuff out there for the rank beginner. I know that I'm very grateful to those that take the time to explain things Barney-style for me.

I'm currently using a Dell Inspiron E1505 laptop, Ubuntu 2.6.22-14-generic kernel (just figured out how to tell what kernel it is today....*sigh*)

Try running through the RUTE tutorial. It's a bit dated, but you'll learn loads...

Also, ubuntu is based on Debian, so you might learn quite a bit from this site.
