I just joined LQ also but I have witched to Linux since 2007.
With Windows I could not stand for the constant battle against malware and other insecurities.
I felt like I had to be my own IT department.
Since the switch to Linux (Ubuntu) in 2007, I have been amazed by the power, security and flexibility.
I feel much more in the drivers seat with Linux and spending my time more productively.
Also, since then I have not had to spend much money for amazing software.
The great majority of the software is all open source, high quality and free.
I'm here to learn more and see if I can contribute.
Majik, I think you will be amazed with Linux, enjoy!
Been a long time lurker here, and thought I'd go ahead and post myself! I *do* keep a Windoze box around for gaming (hangs head in shame), but the main computer in the PC room runs Kubuntu. I've used linux off-and-on for a few years. I'd love to get a job in linux frankly, I can't believe it's not taken off better in the desktop market. It has almost all the server market from what I understand
I have one question, whether it is possible to edit degree of transparency of start-up as in Win7? If yes, which parameter is responsible for this?
Hi Pall Parker and welcome to LQ.
Please start a new thread in a technical forum with your question. Suggest you use the Newbie forum. Also, please include as much information as you can provide, such as the Linux distribution you are working with, any screen shots or examples of what you're looking to try and do, or other relevant information so that others may be able to assist you properly.
