Taking the plunge to Linux, finally!
Hi everyone,
When I first heard of Linux it seemed to be more for programmer types than for me. However, I have recently become extremely impressed by open source software, the developers, and the vast amounts of help available for "established" programmes!
After much surfing and reading I have decided to take the plunge, and install Ubuntu (eventually as the only OS) on my Fujitsu LifeBook u1010. I bought this beautiful little machine in on a vacation in China, but only received the Chinese Windows for it, not much help to me (English and Dutch are my languages)...
Also, it seems that there is open source software for all the things I would want to use it for (media center on-the-go, OpenOffice, ThinkingRock, surfing the internet, a small game here and there...)
I am going on vacation in little over a week, and I hope its completely up and running by then. I expect a steep learning curve as some of its devices do not yet work properly with Linux.
Wish me luck!
