Smile So this is the place to say 'hello'

Hey guys

I've been using lq.org for a few weeks now and I just now stumbled upon this forum. Well I just started using Linux a couple months ago and from what I can gather, it's a very powerful OS that I'm excited about. I've only heard about Linux from other people and on tv but no one I knew was really into it till I got to college. (And that one guy on the Screen Savers show dancing with glee at the Linux World Convention haha!)

So I'm still trying to get everything to work but entering the field of computer science I feel like it will help me alot, and I'll have fun. I just came to the conclusion that switching from Windows to Linux is like learning how to walk again.

The few posts I have made I got great replies, thanks guys!

Welcome to LQ.org!

I'm a computer science major myself, and have been using (and loving) Linux for 6 years. Which guy on TSS was talking about linux? Kevin Rose?

Again, welcome to the site.

The one guy who had curly hair and wore glasses, not Kevin Rose I think...

It had to be maybe 3 or 4 years ago when TSS was on TechTV/ZDTV for me. I haven't watched it in a couple years since I didn't have cable at school. Sorry I couldn't give any more info.

Glad to see a fellow computer science major!

I'm sure you'll find plenty of us around here.

If you don't mind me asking, what year are you in? Where do you go to school? (I'll understand if you don't desire to answer the second... never know who's on here )

Well I'm halfway through my second year. I attend a school in southern Virginia. I've always been into computers. I remember booting up my old 386 Tandy to play Doom and Wing Commander. During college, like many other college students, I've developed my own opinion about alot of things.

So being an avid computer use, I have to make an opinion on the whole Microsoft/Linux issue and I feel Linux is the right way to go. Just using Windows all my life is making the Linux process quite an adventure.

I'm just glad there are places like lq.org! I'm loving the theory behind Linux and as soon as I feel comfortable, I'll remove Windows completely (after I get cedega of course ).
