What a pleasure it is to finally join the discussions on this site. Although I've been registered for over four months, I've never yet needed to post a question, as I've been able to find all the answers I've needed (and there have been several) by searching the forums and threads. This is a marvelous resource for anyone new to OSS and Linux distros.

I recently installed Ubuntu on my computer in a dual-boot configuration with Windows XP. Since I have years-worth of acquired (and paid for!) software, I need to preserve my Windows environment for the near future, but I'm working hard to gravitate completely to the Linux world. So far, I've not had any luck trying to port some favorite and much-needed Win programs to Linux, but I suspect that I'll have more success as I continue to read the questions and answers available on LQ.

Again, a pleasure to finally be participating. I anticipate keeping this site up and running in a Firefox tab at all times.
