Old timey newbie

Hi all,

I'm an old timey programmer, but a newbie to Linux. My roots go back to mainframes and S-100 bus Z80 "micro-computers". I have lots of Assembly and C experience, including real-time control, device drivers, and scientific (numerical methods) programming. None of it very recent, however.

I currently run Ubuntu 9.10 at home, but over the past several years I've also given Red Hat and Suse a try. It's been exciting to see the great progress Linux has made toward being user friendly. I'm an ardent proponent of Linux and all things Open Source, especially OpenOffice.

I'm getting close to retirement and hope to be able to contribute in the not-too-distant future.
