I am new to all this and the number of distro's available is overwhelming.
I have only been on the web for about 6months now and I am learning a great deal about anything I can think of, the only problem with any of this is the number of Linux OS's available.

I have a older Toshiba Satillite 1555CDS, and I haven't began to understand which application would be right for me. I am interested in the internet and the news and articals available. I am trying to learn something new to do for a occupation, I was injured 1 and 1/2 years ago and I am trying to figure something that I can learn to earn a living off of.

I enjoy the threads that are posted and have been learning as I gol If anyone knows of a distro that would be easy to download and run, I would apreciate the help. Right now I have window xp wsp2 and have had to re-boot 5 times in the last 5 months, twice in one day. Time to let it go.

Hi and welcome to LQ I'd suggest you look into Ubuntu, Knoppix, Mepis if you want something to run as a live cd prior to installing.

Thank you for the information, any type will help. I have heard of these three, also Damn Small Linux, Archer, and ect. I will order a Live CD as soon as I can, also I requested a copy of Ubuntu. I have also heard of Sarge lately but have not found any info on how much, where to order, and information in general on the OS.

Like I say there is alot to choose from, in most ways it seems overdounting to say the least. By the way I only have a 4gigabyte hd, AMD K-6 360Mgz. Like I said it is a old system, but has been a good machine to learn on.

Sarge is downloadable. I'd suggest you read the LQ Distro Reviewsand Distrowatch and see what's available. Then go to LQ's Distro Download Section and take a few for a spin.

Thank you once more for information concerning Sarge, I tried a couple of Linux sights and didn't find anything except DownLoad.
