Thumbs up None Linux user thrust into supporting customer that wish to be

Hi, I'm Joe and I'm a computerholic. Actually I run a small computer shop in a small town but I have several thousand past/present customers. I am not nor to I plan to be a Linux head but may build a box and install Linux as I have a customer or two that wish to become Linux users and will look to me to support them.

At the present I'm about Linux like I am Apple; I know enough to be dangerous. But I will take whatever plunge to support my customer base ('cause if I won't someone else will).

With that said, I am fortunate to have a son that is a Linux-head and has been using Linux professionally for a number of years.

I see that this site will be a huge resource and will be here when I need assistance. And right off the bat, I welcome input as to which release I should consider setting up/using and which should I recommend for my new users? My son recommended Ubuntu and that seems to be a popular one; but I welcome others. If you do have a recommendation though, I would ask that you state why you recommend it.

Thank you and I look forward to being a small part of this community.
