Newish to Linux, and to here - Stultiloquent

Hey there,

Okay, the little note at the top of the screen said I should come here and introduce myself. I thought about it, and who am I to deny the suggestive power of text that tells me to do things.

My name's Shane and I'm fairly new to Linux. I say fairly new because I've used various linux platforms via the X interface, but have never dug deep into the imagined mire of command-line operation nor nuts and bolts of any linux system.

Anyway, I'm a technical writer for a software company, I like long walks on the beach, and am seeking intimate... knowledge of linux. I figure this is a good place to start.

See you all around,

Shane

Welcome to LQ!

Suggestive text can be a dangerous and powerful tool -- but I suppose as a writer you already knew that.

Hi all,

I have used various versions of Linux off and on for about 3 years. I have not got into the depths of Linux yet, but I do plan on getting more into it soon. Current usage is xandros desktop 3.0. I have done some command line ops, most times with success but not always (there were a couple of reinstalls in there). I have liked Linux from the first time i used it, but there were things that I could not do with it (like online gaming), but that has changed over time. Now all I have to do is get wine working correctly. I have a LUG here in Pennsylvania, USA. It is a small one, but the lead person in my really works hard at making it fun and informative.
