Ubuntu DVD does not contain all packages,
Opensuse and Fedora are better, you get everyhting u want from a single DVD, to play MP3, it is very eassy to install the plugins. |

Personally, I don't want a whole bunch of software to come on the DVD, I like to keep it simple. Some people don't want to install proprietary plug-ins, because they'd rather keep their system fully FOSS. It isn't as simple as you make it out to be -- if you'd like to understand why I am saying this take some time to learn more about Linux, understand what is under the fancy effects and embrace all the differences. As the old English idiom goes, "Variety is the spice of life." And please, for heaven's sake, try to better your punctuation, spelling and grammar. It would make your posts so much easier to reply to... You don't have to be an English major -- I'm certainly not -- but you can use tools like Google to improve your English. We have a nice 'English problems' thread here in the non-technical forum. You might want to check it out. Also, If this helps any, here is a more readable, more understandable, and improved rendition of your last reply. Quote:

Intro
Hi all,
Intro: Using Ubuntu 10.04 LTS b4 that I was using 8.04. Ubuntu was the first Linux OS that I used. Surprisingly, it was much user friendly than I expected it to be. May be because most of my friends said that its is very difficult to use Linux. This may sound crazy.. but in years to come I am expecting Ubuntu to beat Windows in terms of number of users! Keeping my fingers crossed. |
it is because my internet is slow, too long to download packages, so i prefer everything comes with the DVD

Hi Su SudokuSlack. wlecome aboard.
When Installing slack on Christmas eve. I realized you have a skinny chimney, actually that felt like a furnace. Never mind it seems some SubGenuis felt he was getting some slack back. Tired of fixing the Kubuntu for you. I really am looking for a few more brain cells after figuring out the Kubuntu problem. Seems it took up to much space on my brain drive. I now have to fsck my sectors to get my table right. I will be getting some slack back now that your computer just works. sorry no more sudo asylum for you just the real thing. Ps Did you know there was a flying saucer on your roof. Seems them Aliens are trying to get some slack back. Praise Bob Quote:

New to Linux - Hi!
Thanks "guys" for the welcome and the advice.
Issued raised: I'm not offended that someone thought I am male - Engineers of my generation get called "Mr." a lot. I wasn't clear about Ubuntu - I was using Kubuntu since I run a Dell - but it wasn't working well for me. So I moved on to Slackware-Current. Drakeo's been taking good care of me - he walked me through yesterday's upgrades. Keep warm out there, Sudoku Slack |
Mandriva is also very good.
Actually, all Linuxes are equally good, only "what is your taste"? Apple or orange? :D |
