Smile New in the Neighborhood

Hello,

I am a first-time poster here, but I have been using various Linux distributions since a friend introduced me to Quantian back in 2005. The reason I joined LQ a week ago is that I installed Slackware on my desktop PC. But then I chickened out and installed PCLinuxOS with KDE, to learn KDE without having the additional problem of not knowing how to install security updates.

I may go back to Slackware someday, because I like the simplicity of the packaging of software. Tarballs are easier to understand than DEBs. But since I do math and risk analysis for a living, I'd rather focus on the application software that I'm using and writing, as opposed to the system administration for my computer.

Hope to see posts from new people and learn new things while I'm here.

Thanks!

Charles in NJ
