My introduction

Just thought I would say Hi. I just made the switch to Ubuntu from windows xp. I have alot of learning to do but I think I will like it. Its a new challenge for me I guess but once I get the basics down and learn the keyboard shortcuts and the commands to make things run in the Konsole, things will move much smoother.

Im running on a kinda old laptop now. Compaq M2000 series. I was thinking of buying 1G Kingston ram and installing so maybe things will run a bit smoother. Right now the 256m isn't really cutting it. Just wish I had a better video card. Radeon 200m.

I'm a complete noob to Linux but I am working on changing that.

Can anyone suggest any good Noob books on Linux that will be helpful in laying down the basics and possibly go well with Ubuntu 6.10?

Thanks
Larry

Welcome to LQ!

When choosing a Linux book you should first think if you prefer to learn first the GUI part, or balance it with the ideas which are usually easier to get into when using the command line.

I was just looking around on amazon.com and there are more books there than I expected. I have an idea of what I am looking for so I am sure I will figure out what I can use.

Figuring out how to install downloaded files off the internet will be a big help.

I have been making slow progress but so far I am glad I swapped to linux.
