Me, I think
Hi, Brian Ronald here. I'm the guy who's mostly in charge of Tyneside Linux User Group, and the only remaining founding member. We're a busy little LUG.
A little about me. I've been a Linux user for over 12 years. I've only recently come to realise how long that really is. I moved to Linux from DOS, because it seemed like the natural upgrade at the time. Windows 3.11 was the cutting edge of Microsoft technology at the time, and I believed it would probably fall by the wayside as OS/2 Warp or Linux took over the world. I was wrong about OS/2, perhaps. So, here I am, still running Linux, and still utterly frustrated when I attempt to use Windows for more than the odd game. I've managed to be the only person at my place of work (Connexions Tyne and Wear) with Linux on the desktop, and I've managed to integrate it into the Active Directory with quite some degree of success. I've also managed to squeeze some Linux servers into use over the years, but this has mainly been because we can't afford the Windows solutions that we'd rather implement... hooray for free software. So, sometimes I feel rather smug when people ask me when I switched from Windows to Linux, because... I never did. Sometimes, though, it just makes me feel like I predate the fossil record. I'm only 31! I love to play games on Linux. In particular, OpenTTD and Oolite. I've recently become a big fan of Tcl and Tk for writing small applications, which means it's taken me over a decade to heed the advice of one of my professors at university. No wonder I dropped out. |

I also used OS/2 Warp for about 4 or 5 years till I fell into Linux. Been there mostly ever since.
