My history is using *nix systems
- bsd unix, using source, vax 750 or something like that
- Altos Xenix
- Olivetti (MS Xenix)
- SCO Xenix
- SCO Unix
- SCO Unixware
- HP/UX
- IBM AIX
- SUN Solaris
- and many other commercial unix
Today mostly some Linux/GNU distro.
Message for the Linux/GNU distros: long path to the label "product" and if you like to get lot of new users, KDE/Gnome/... to desktop, it must be product.
Today I'm mostly project manager, but hoppy is to create services using only Korn shell (ksh). Bash is for me UI, but ksh is programming tool. Biggest reason: socket support and io process support for programmers, not only looking technical solution.
Ex:
echo 100 200 300 | read a b c
echo $a $b $c
