Just wanted to say hello
Hi
So I'm new to this place, although not really new to linux. I'm using Ubuntu for over a year now. I started because that other most used system, got really on my nerves. So I started looking around. From what I had heart Linux was used fairly rarely. So there would be an even smaller group that would use what I need, if that existed at all. Because, since I'm as blind as the proverbial bath, I need a screen reader to do more than switch a computer on. Surprisingly enough, it didn't take me long to find Gnome with Orca and Ubuntu. So I tried it out, it worked, I stayed. Without any real knowledge of anything except what one knows if SHe uses a computer regularly to do the everyday stuff.. Well Firefox and Thunderbird worked the same way they always did. So I could look for answers fairly easily. So after a while I understood how a terminal worked (Nobody needs a mouse for that.) And configuration files, you don't need to be a programmer to understand these. They're written in fairly plain english. So I started to push and tweak, and install and remove, and produce the occasional katastrophe. Well, that's the way it still is. I use that machine for the usual stuff, like mails, browsing the internet, burning cds. But I also love messing around, trying out stuff. Although I've learned a lot over the last year, there's a whole lot I still don't know or understand. So I guess I'll ask more questions than I'll be able to answer. Well, we'll see. take care, Guenni |
Hello, and welcome to LQ! Glad to hear you're having fun tweaking your machine...that's one of the strengths of Linux; it's freely changeable and customizable to any degree.
...even if it gets a little frustrating sometimes. But that's what LQ is here for! ;) |
