Just saying "hello" for first time per instructions

My daughter got frustrated with her Windows XP desktop and gave to me to do with whatever I wanted. So, of course, I formatted the hard drive and installed linux. This level of involvement is a new experience for me. So here I am looking for more info. A good day to you all!
