Talking It's not broken...It's Microsoft!!

Hi,
Just introducing my self so you all will know what to expect when I fire up my repetitive stupid question generator. I've been in technology one way or another since I got out of the USMC in '88
I was young and never needed sleep so I could play all night and work all day. Can you say "Atari 64 is an awesome personal computer ;-)" I think my wife fed that one to the garbage compactor "by accident" cause she was jealous.
I went to school in my thirties and got an associates in math and a Bachelors in computer Science. I taught at SRU for three years as a full time temp hire instructor in the Comp Sci dept. I considered going after my PHD but decided it was too much BS, Time, and money....so I had a stroke instead.
I spent the next year learning how to walk talk and not poop myself. I managed to return to running my mom n pop computer store/ISP/ebay market until 2009 or 2010.
My health has been an issue and three strokes, two heart attacks, fibromyalgia, nerve damage, arthritis, and stupid pills, have worn me out. I spend a lot of time in bed, going back and forth to the VA hospital, and tinkering with my out of date computer hardware.
I have a small stack of ruggedized Itronix Go-books with windows xp on them. I tinker with ways to get good use out of them. One of them is specifically for playing Command and Conquer II because it crashes in windows 7 and 8. I have been tinkering now and then with linux since college. I took a Unix class. I used to spend a lot of time with the BASH shell. But that was 3 strokes ago.
It is sometimes frustrating to take a week to learn how to do something I wrote man pages for years ago, but I get a lot of satisfaction when it finally works.
My current project involves trying to get a couple of excito b3 servers that, worked when I put them in the box, a year ago, to show signs of life. I am sure that once I get them to respond I will find that I don't remember the usernames and passwords to access them.
I just thought I would join you guys because I have found a plethora of great knowledge and experience when I come here looking for Linux answers.
If you read this whole rant then, you probably will tolerate my long winded tendency (it's genetic) and won't flame me to death when I become recursive.

Semper Fi from a former Devil Dog.

No college for me. No formal education what so ever.
Looks like jaw jacking is a jarhead side effect. I suffer from it also.

Howdy and Welcome from a Linux using scooter tramp.

Good luck with the projects and relearning tricks.
I equate learning linux like speaking english all your life.
Then being thrown into a Mexican Chiapas village and looking around for anybody
that speaks english.

Hello and welcome to the forum, looks like you're not having too great of time with your health. I'd be happy to pray for you.

WELCOME! It's great to see another person who enjoys 'just making things work'!

How much ram do your GoBooks have? (is that link 'them'?) The excito b3? (which Debian version?)

ByTheWay, are you familiar with grub(/lilo?) rw init=/bin/sh, to reset # passwd?

Your `rsqg` | this > good_posts I too long_wind (tho I'm cryptic )

p.s. Ever try VirtualBox? (I 'live' in that world, on my old 2G XPsp2 netbook! Yea minimal!)

Anyway, Yes, seek and focus-on enjoyment! Best wishes!
