Introduction

I've been working with Red Hat Linux since about version 5. For the past ten years or more, I've been working with Red Hat Enterprise Linux starting with version 3. I support five RHEL 5 servers in our library and one of those is a development server -- pretty small time. I also have a test server that I use for testing. The servers provide web servers for our CDI project, for our library web site and, in august this year we migrated our Solaris installation of our Voyager library system to RHEL 5. Moving Voyager to Linux from Solaris has been a huge relief. I was never at all comfortable with Solaris. Our Voyager server was the last Solaris installation on campus and the campus sys admins were also anxious to get rid of it. Ex Libris only recently ported Voyager to Red Hat Linux so Solaris and AIX were the only options. We began with AIX and I was more comfortable with that than Solaris too, but linux is way better than both!
