Introducing myself

Problems with English? Questions? Vocabulary, grammar... Post here :)

Though English was my first language I grew up on a non-English speaking country and have lived most of my life there. So, I’ve been losing my English fluency since I was a kid and I think that’s one of my major drawbacks in overcoming my computer illiteracy.

That’s why I thought that thread would be the best place to make my first post.
But, alas, to my surprise my attempt was interrupted by a LinuxQuestions.org.Message telling me I do not have permission to access that page.

I never tried to edit someone else’s post or to access administrative features and I am not aware that my account is disabled or that it’s awaiting activation.

Is it true I must first post here before posting anywhere else?

Sorry for the delay in thanking your welcome!

I have some problems with a Linux distro and I think that my computer illiteracy might be making it difficult for me to overcome them, so I’m searching for a place in the Internet, that is not biased towards Microsoft and that is willing to help people like me to achieve their goal.

Welcome to Linux.

Keep telling yourself (and this has the virtue of being true) that Linux is not hard, but it is different from Windows.

These are references that have helped me, in addition to Google, LQ, and alt.comp.os.slackware.

Here's a good basic intro to Linux. It's oriented to Ubuntu, but the information is solid. I wish I had known about it when I started with Linux five+ years ago. (I have found about dot com to be a good reference site for a lot of topics--their CSS tutorials are excellent.)

The Slackbook is also great. It's Slackware-oriented, so it's very good on basics, such as permissions, file structure, and the like.

Garrels's Introduction to Linux is extremely detailed and very thorough. I would recommending waiting a couple of weeks or months and getting your feet wet before tackling it.

My delay in thanking both welcomes and Frankbell’s tips are due to the fact that I had thought of taking advantage of these thanks to continue introducing myself.

But I’m actually experiencing a dilemma that is related with the problem :(I’m having with a Linux distro I mentioned on post #8 of this thread.

That problem:( is hindering my introduction into this forum because I don’t want to introduce myself as someone who has had a bad experience with that distro but I can’t say I’ve had an excellent experience with it.

May be I should introduce myself as someone who had great expectations on that distro and because of reasons that are unknown to me at this time feels rather disappointed.:(

Perhaps I should also introduce myself as a person who is trying to find out in this forum the reasons for his disappointment, who wants to continue introducing himself to this Linux community and who wants to know if this community has objections to what he is trying to do.

Before 2009 I had heard and read about free software and Linux distros but had never used a free software operating system.

During the first months of 2009, by chance, I had the opportunity of trying one.

And I think I fell in love with it.!!!:D

Our romance went steady for about 9 months:D, but then suddenly, OS refused talking to me :oand I really don't know what has happened to our relationship:(.

What’s worse, OS's community hasn't yet been able to give me a good explanation of what has happened.:(

And there are times when I feel so miserable :( and I cry so loud that kind and sensible people like you ask the sort of things you have asked.

But I must be cautious for if I talk too much I might harm the community that supports OS and I don’t want to do that for it surely would hurt my beloved.

So, thanks, I’ll always keep in mind your kind suggestion and if I continue needing help and I feel I can control my words you can be sure I will contact you again.
