Hi, my name is Jim, I'm a wannabe Web Developer. I'm old, 62, but I still want to do this thing. I have some experience with AS3. In the past year I've been studying javascript, PHP, mysql, and drupal. I understand that linux is a good environment for drupal development. I briefly played with linux a few years back so I'm not a total nubie.

You can start with some basis commands to polish your knowledge of Linux again. Although lot of documentation is available over Internet, but you can find some good stuff here,
1. TLDP
2. Introduction to Linux - A Hands on Guide
3. GNU/Linux Command−Line Tools Summary

Good luck. Ciao.

Jim, since you mentioned Drupal there are alternative ways to get a development environment

Using a pre-build virtual machine: drupal.org/project/vagrant or drupal.org/project/quickstart

Using an install script for Ubuntu: drupal.org/project/drubuntu

PS: Sorry, I'm new here as well so I cannot post URL's
