Hey there! User of Linux for the Desktop

Hello There!

I am Harish and I've been using Linux as my Desktop OS for more than 5 yrs now. I'm currently using Ubuntu 6.1 and Mandrake 10 Eval.

I'm interested in building a linux distro from scratch. I'll probably be trying out gentoo first though.

Also, I'm interested in learning about embedded Linux and its applications.

Hi, and welcome

My advice in this case would be to forget Gentoo and go directly for LFS (Linux From Scratch). Or if you want, install Gentoo, but anyway if you're interested in LFS, go for it -- Gentoo doesn't teach you as much as LFS does.

Hey Guys,

Thanks for your advice b0uncer! LFS may be the way I'll go... I'm reading 'Building Embedded Linux Systems' by Karim Yaghmour. He gives many resources to building embedded Linux systems from scratch using open source software...I just realised Linus's answer to (possible) lack of documentation- "Use the source Luke"- haha! "Yes Sir!"

I still have a lot to learn and experience, but I'm finding it fun...

Thanks b0uncer and shrikant.odugoudar!
