I must admit to being a tad confused at being asked to introduce myself and then finding the question "what's your problem?" in the guidelines to posting a first time introduction...
Aside from my problem (there's more than one), I'm probably the inspiration for Roald Dahl's "The BFG" (no, not big friendly giant - Bald Fat Git).
I've been around the track a few times - my computing experience dates back to the heady days of the 1970s in the UK when women were women and men were longing for something better than a hex display. Or in my case, octal.
I have a 'Net footprint that goes back to pre-'Net days and a strong desire to get out from under the crippling influence of - whisper who dares - Macrohard et al.
I like a challenge, so I installed Debian and then found out that my recommended distro would have been OpenSuse. Oh, well. The story of my life.
But I've got used to the foibles of Debian's Lenny - I can now actually manage to get from boot to online through my wi-fi router via a Belkin card in under a minute. Or so. Widnose boots more slowly but accesses the router faster; I will eventually discover why.
Greetings to one and all, and congratulations to anyone who recognised David Frost's timeless intro to I'm Sorry I'll Read That Again
Best,
Peter
