Hello - first post
Hi - New to the forum. Just evicted Bill Gates from the last computer in my house. Got so disgusted that I used an old maxllf floppy to low-level format and erase all vestiges, just in case...
Installing Debian Lenny, but even though the light comes on the cdrom I still have to manually open the tray. Tray goes back in, the light comes on, but I get a "read error" message.
Oh well, steep learning curve. I guess I could fdisk, etc. Ideas?
Hi and welcome to LQ
Two things come to mind
1 - Lenny cd is not burned as an iso image (has it been used before?)
2 - cdrom not reading disk.
I think that's the problem. This is a disk I got out of Linux magazine; I just now put it on my Mac to browse and I don't see any .iso files. There is an autorun file which makes me think it is designed to run from a Win machine. I can't find the mag it came out of, so I guess I'll download an iso file from Debian. Thanks.
My son is taking guitar lessons; I've been playing for a long time and I told him to not get discouraged. It's not fun being a newbie at ANTHING. You feel like such a klutz until you get up to speed, and as a Linux newbie I know how he feels. I will say this, though - every day I am happier with my Mac, and I can't wait to get a little proficient with Linux.
