Heello from (an Indian in) Kuwait

Hi,

I am Windows power-user and am new to Linux. Started off with Ubuntu. Then realized that on a corporate level, RedHat is most used and so switched to Fedora. That was when I read this somewhere:

"If you learn RedHat, you learn RedHat Linux but if you learn Slackware, you learn Linux."

Now am playing around with Slackware 12.1 and Xfce (since am not yet successful installing Gnome on the machine - I hate KDE).

Welcome to the world of Linux. I think Ubuntu serves as the best option for people migrating from Windows to Linux, also it has got a very huge user support for any problem you face with it. May be you can try some LinuxLive like Ubuntu/Knoppix/SUSE/DSL etc... Try the fluxbox window manager which is very lightweight, Gonme/KDE etc will take huge memory as they are desktop managers.
