Having a blast with linux

Hello all :)
I've been using linux for about 3 weeks and i love it....
I got Slackware 9.1 and tryed to make it coexist with win 98 but the dual boot gave me some trouble so i flushed win and am pretty happy of it...
I do 3D graphic, modeling and want to do animation too.
I found the graphical interface of higher quality from all point of view especially color wise.
I do a lot of internet search and download and with win i'd be lucky to get 100k/s D/L and now i generally get betwwen 160 and 280 and ive seen it often going up to 350-400k/s
And NEVER had to RESTART my computer ONCE (unless i WANTED to)
Well thanks for reading if you did....
 :Pengy:

To loose windoze, it's worth losing the fonts.

Actually, I have seen some windoze type fonts here somewhere. I installed a bunch of fonts.

Still hate windoze.

Actually, Bitstream Vera fonts are quite nice. Its never been a real problem for Printer fonts, but screen fonts are harder. Actually, most distros have a way to get the Microsoft core fonts from the Sourceforge site that hosts them. You just need cabextract and something else. In Debian, you "apt-get install msttcorefonts", which is a free installer script - which satisfies the "free" aspect of the Debian Social Contract, while letting you, as a user decide whenther you want to use the fonts Microsoft allowed for free - with conditions.

Nice so you can have the only good thing about windoze on Linux...

Exactly. Gotta take that technology so lovingly stolen from Apple and tweaked to be pretty. And then you recompile freetype to enable the subpixel hinting and you've got all the stops pulled! But the fonts woth a current version of freetype, antialiases, looks good anyways.
