Greetings to LQ

Hello, All.

I am now retired and have the time to learn some new skills - and I have chosen Linux.

I have used MS products from MS-DOS 3.3 to MS-DOS 6.22 (the best OS ever put out by MS), and Windows from WIN 98 through to WIN 8. I am familiar with, and prefer to use, command line operation once I've learned the syntax, switches and modifiers.

When I've got my head around loading Ubuntu 14.04 LTS into a dedicated laptop, I'll have to learn about blogs.

Cheers.

Welcome to Linux Questions!

Docs about line commands are usually get by reading man and info pages of commands. 'man command' or 'info command'.

There are HOWTO's and Guides at TLDP.

There is also LQ Tutorial.

biggles41,

Welcome to LQ, cobber.

You will find that only a relatively small amount of command line is needed in Ubuntu.

Here is a cheat sheet for Ubuntu:

Things to do after installing Ubuntu:

If you don't like the Unity desktop, you can always try MATE (or Xfce etc):

For blogs try this Blogger Tutorial:
