Greetings from a small town in Ontario
Well, I'm somewhat new to the world of Linux although I've been a fan and lover of all things tech (especially computers) since I was a kid.
I was introduced to Linux by a college professor who had encouraged all his students to discard their (then) current OSs in favour of Ubuntu (then 6.06 LTS). He had actually brought with him about 100 copies and did a whole speech on the beauty and freedom of Open Source and Free Software and why we should all stop giving our money away to Microsoft. Later on I became more familiar with other distros and tried out Fedora, Linux Mint and openSUSE. My uncle with whom I'm pretty close is also a Linux user and suggested I try Slackware which I've now been using for about a week after doing some two or three months of reading up on it and learning some of the basics. I'm having a great time learning how to customize an OS to my liking and the challenges often make me hungry for more! I hope I can be of service here and I look forward to sharing my experiences with anyone who wants to know them. Cheers! |
Welcome! I also learnd about linux on university. You could also try redhat and mandrake or the very tiny distros (Puppy, dsl, tinycore)
