First Day Here

I've been in the computer repair business for 30+ years. I see Microsoft going down a horrible path with Windows 8 and even worse with Windows 10. To me the solution is to convert to Open Source, first with me, then with as many as I can help make the transition! I just converted my bench PC to Linux Mint 17.2 and I was surprised at how easy the transition has been. Linux has come a long way baby since the first time I gave it a try 15 years ago.

Hello and welcome to the forum :)

Just as some advice: Go easy on "converting" others to Linux. Spend some time (and possibly take some classes) learning this OS yourself. There's much to learn if you plan on offering support. Take a careful assessment of what your individual customer's needs and desires are. There is still quite a bit that Linux cannot provide or provide as well (as Windows.) A customer that expects his/her Linux system to do everything that a Windows system can end up being an unhappy customer very quickly, creating additional work for you and possible loss of repeat business. ;)

Also, be aware that hardware support is still not on par with Windows. Not only for installing Linux on a customer's computer but for any device the customer may buy in the future, such as a printer or wireless adapter. There can be more work involved (and more pitfalls) getting stuff to work in Linux and your customer will need to know this so they can determine if this something they feel up to being able to handle, if they even want to.

Just my :twocents:

Regards...
